Richard Frankel

Richard Frankel launched Richard Frankel Productions in 1985, and joined with his partners Tom Viertel, Steve Baruch and Marc Routh shortly thereafter. Previously, he had been the Managing Director of Circle Repertory Company where he worked on 40 world premieres of plays by writers including Lanford Wilson, David Mamet, A.R. Gurney, Marsha Norman, Terrence McNally and Sam Shepard and supervised the transfer of several productions to commercial runs off-Broadway. His work in the theatre began at the age of 16 in a hotel nightclub, and he worked for The Barry Farber Show on WOR-Radio in New York while a student at Brooklyn College. After serving for two years in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, he worked as a stage manager and technician off-off Broadway in New York, in Europe and the UK. Upon returning to the United States in 1973, he worked off-Broadway and in regional theaters as a stage manager, administrator, press agent and marketing director, and in 1981 became Managing Director of Circle Repertory Company.
